hot june

black-eyed susan

sort of ridiculous how hot it is outside.

purple/pink coneflower

and sort of ridiculous that I'm considering taking some iced tea & a book outside to be hot. (and mom, of course a hat and some sunscreen.)

green cherry tomatoes

and I know it won't help the headache I woke with. except it may help me shed some toxins. (bourbon, why don't you like me as much as I like you?)

but it is summer.  and in the dead winter of january, these are the days I dream of.

in the forest

early morning light.

early morning wild geranium. (I think)

and watching early morning coffee-with-bailey's being prepared.

I felt lucky for all of it.

6.20.2011

bumpy canyon roads. looking for that quiet spot with a fine view.

big ol' sunny meadow. with grand vista views. and a high mountain wind.

the flatlander had some altitude issues.
but finally a sweet little spot by the creek was found.

snacks. dinner. drinks. waiting for the stars to come out.
and sleeping to the sound of mountain water rushing by.

and then morning coffee & driving down, back to responsibilities, schedules & a suitcase.

6.17.2011

a haircut. a ride around the enchanted circle.
good pizza & beer in a shady courtyard.

a creaky old western store full of boots. and old, pretty silver jewelry.
and thrift store shopping which we came out empty-handed.

wildfires all around. but here clear, blue skies.
and tomorrow, camping.

6.13.2011

quiet train trip. open fields. dirt rusty with iron ore. shakespeare on stage. tall, green trees and water rushing by. and in an old abobe church with a crooked cross, dinner of fresh & locally grown foods; chicken tacos with cabbage & spicy cinnamon, salad with strawberries & a tamale with an earthy mole.

6.07.2011

tomatoes. battling the hot & persistent south wind.
102 degrees and it is still officially spring.

6.04.2011

june morning

the lily which I've been waiting to bloom.
and this morning here it is, lovely in its orange.
going to be a hot weekend, but whatever, because the sun will be out & enjoyed by me.

6.03.2011

just another one of my new favorite photos.
this one taken by my brother.
I love that for them going for walks in a country field is just a normal day.

5.30.2011

the lovely weekend...

waiting for company to arrive. with my house clean & lots of little plans.

made blueberry muffins. drank coffee on the porch.

there was a sunny bicycle ride around town. which ended when the old Flyer got a flat. and then it was a sunny walk back home for me.

a couple of meals in the backyard. this one with shandy made with Ad Astra Ale. mmm.
then baked lemon butter cupcakes, it was my birthday after all.

then with a couple few cucumber lime margaritas, some late night Dutch Blitz.
in which best friends are driven to start cursing, yelling & laughing at each other.

on my own again, I'd reserved the day for sunshine.
but the wind & clouds came instead. so some sewing. and I have
a little napper as company.

5.27.2011

just one of my new favorite photos.
(mom at a camp stove & in the mountains on mem day weekend)

great things list #19

may flowers for a birthday.

5.22.2011

the lovely spring days of may

my favorite kind of birthday card came in the mail.
the kind that has been cut & glued & drawn.

and along with a present from mom, came peonies,
my favorite kind of birthday flower.

also this weekend was sunshine, antique store shopping with a best friend, a brother to help me with some house repair & a visit from the niece & nephew, who came bearing tater tots and slushies.

5.17.2011

time of year again

an early birthday present. as every year.

a darkest purple iris blooming.

little basils on the back porch.

zinnias coming up.

and a chubby kitten getting yelled at to quit digging holes in my garden.

thank you Kansas springtime.

mother's day

this is how fortunate I am.
the mothers in my life, who have never failed in their unconditional love & support for me.

happy mother's day.

in the air

signs today that spring is really here.
happy frog organic fertilizer, tomatoes planted & dirt warming in the sun.
new flowers from the garden center.

iris blooming along my fence.
& I got chased out of my garage by a huge bumblebee.

woke up feeling stuffy from pollen in the air.
& I found my kitten in the garden.

primavera

pretty spring showing in old new mexico.

4.20.2011

sprouts

little basil-lings that I can't wait to plant outdoors.

been having dreams about being somewhere that I need to find a way home from, or knowing that I have to travel far to get somewhere & needing to find out to do it... I think my brain is mulling over a few things.

and then there was that dream about being forced to stay in Budapest to perform in a medieval Halloween play with my high school class.

I am looking forward to my next train trip, and enjoying some Springtime air in the old west.

4.14.2011

a month past

just thinking, it was now a month ago that I left for my trip.

sweet memories. (except for the air travel part)

4.08.2011

sometimes it is just the blahs. no matter what you do.
the outside is bursting with spring, but your insides are still a little bit like winter.
and you just have to wait for it all to even out.

but I do have this always entertaining kitten.
